Evil Eye
03:25
|
|||
Couldn't look him in the pale blue eye
Couldn't look him in the evil eye
Moved to the beat, beat of a heart
Beat in a chest, beneath the boards
I creeped in at the door so faintly seven nights
So near the bedside in the soft lantern light
Moved to the beat, beat of a heart
Beat in a chest, beneath the boards
The shriek was my own in a dream
The shriek was my own in a dream now
I smiled gaily to find the deed so far done
Worked in silence after the hour had come
Moved to the beat, beat of a heart
Beat in a chest, beneath the boards
The shriek was my own in a dream
The shriek was my own in a dream now
And I smiled, because what had I to fear?
The shriek was my own in a dream

Weather Underground
02:47
|
|||
Her eyes are full of lightning
They're just on fire
And all anyone can do
Is sit and enjoy the view
And put the weather underground (in the garden)
And put the weather underground
You could study me, you could analyze my moods
Will I hold a Bermuda high or carry a monsoon?
Will there be sunny skies or a grey winter low?
And after blizzard winds, will there be angels in the snow?
She puts the weather underground (in the garden)
She puts the weather underground
Down, down...
We put the weather underground (in the garden)
We put the weather underground
Down, down...

Miles Away
03:30
|

Looking for a reason
The memories recalled
Lay ripe and for the picking
Inside your dresser drawer
Beside your favorite t-shirt
The one that’s washed and worn
And frayed along the edges
Like a page from your passport
(Rock salt on the first day of summer)
Rely on something borrowed
And wake up feeling blue
Searching far and wide
For something new
Looking for a reason
I’m searching for the light
Any type of season
Any time of night
I packed my bags and left there
But now I’m looking for my friend
There isn’t much to see here
That I would recommend
Rely on something borrowed
And wake up feeling blue
Searching far and wide
For something new
All this indecision
And nights I’ve come unglued
Might seem miles away
When I’m with you
We only said goodbye
To come back later
Held tight and kept on keeping on
There’s a picture it hangs on your refrigerator
And reminds me why I’ve been hanging out this long

Built to Last
02:54
|
|||
You and me, we both got wings
We know that things are gonna change
You and me, we both see things
That other people don't see
We take new pictures, and we rearrange the frames
We make our own words along the way
The only constant is change
The only constant is change
Never thought it would be easy
But we knew it would be right
Never thought it would be easy
Tonight
We were born to run
We were born to run
Seasons change under the sun
But together, we were born to run
Things are gonna change so fast
But we were built to last
We were? We were

Dead Christmas Trees
02:28
|
|||
January, the death of me
Cold empty streets filled with dead Christmas trees
And the choir of voices has become background noises
To the ghosts in our hearts haunting our choices
Tell my city I’m gone
And tell my baby I’m leaving
They serve us liters of fine wine and champagne
But they charge us by the flute again
So tell my city I’m gone and tell my baby I’m leaving
I’m going somewhere I don’t have to be believed in
Tomorrow feels like yesterday
It’s a lead weight
Tomorrow feels like yesterday again
But there are new ways
There are new ways
There are new ways
There are new ways to make the same mistakes

When we see you
We don't see you at all
‘Cause when we see you
We see right through you
The words here are words not written down
They're only ringing out
When you're talking we don't hear you
We don't hear you
'Cause when you open your mouth, your sweet mouth
Only birds fly out

Sailin' (on a Boat)
03:34
|
|||
She said, “Life jackets are for girls”
As she climbed aboard
You know an anchor’s gonna drag you down
You know an anchor’s gonna drag you down
You know an anchor’s gonna drag you down
You know an anchor’s gonna drag you down
She said a storm was on the way
And right then we just had to sail
She said "Life jackets are for girls," as we climbed aboard. Her arms were shaking, and she had goosebumps on her thighs. I could tell she was looking for something to hold onto. So I said, "Baby, an anchor is just gonna drag you down!" And she laughed as we shoved off into the sea (that day). She had a beautiful laugh when she was scared. A storm was comin', but we didn't care. We had too much in front of us and too little behind back then. But right then we just had to sail.
She had this laugh when she was scared
And right then we just had to sail

We watched the earth burn in the night
We were a fleet in flight
We left a world on fire, we let it burn in the night
Tired of wasting pixels, tired of wasting bytes
And the world won't change
And the world won't change
And the world won't change
And the world won't change
We left a world on fire, we let it burn in the night
Tired of wasting words, tired of wasting bytes
Why should anyone stay when the clocks are running backwards and then melt away?
Why should we wait when the world won't …?
When the world won't change
When the world won't change
When the world won't change
When the world won't change

Meet Me at the Mall
02:24
|
|||
We went to the mall
We went to the movies
We brought lots of snacks
Hanging with our friends
Meet me at the mall today (at the mall)
Meet me at the mall (at the mall)
Meet me at the mall today (at the mall)
Meet me at the mall (at the mall)
We went to the food court
Munching on some pizza
They had lots of sushi
There’s sushi at the mall
If you want it then they got it (meet me at the mall)
Circuit, circuit, circuit city (meet me at the mall)
Let’s go to the mall
Let’s go to the Radio Shack
Gonna get a battery
Maybe go to Cinnabon

I’m the brightest star in town
Nothing’s gonna get me down
I got it all
My show it airs on ABC
At 9pm you can look for me
With Kevin James on the big stage
What kind of money am I on? (what kind of money am I on??)
What kind of drugs do I want?
The show debuts with a big push
The ratings king of the Tuesday rush
I got it all
Week two comes and the ratings slide
Cancellation rumors fly
And Kevin James is MIA
What kind of money am I on?
What kind of drugs do I want?
What kind of money am I on?
What kind of drugs do I want?
And now my agent won’t return my calls
And there’s nothing I can do at all
But give one last middle finger to the fast-dispersing hordes
Maybe dial up the numbers for the sisters of the poor

Get Yourself Together!
03:30
|
|||
Wake up in the morning, and there's no hot water
You want a cup of coffee, but it's out of order
Try to get dressed and can't find your shoes
You put the TV on and it's all Fox News
You want something
You want something that works
Hey now, they’re only words
Hey now, straighten your shirt
Get yourself together, don't lose your nerve
Stumble down the stairs to the parking lot (where are you going?)
The engines turning over but the gears are shot
You order a Lyft but the car won't move (where are you going?)
And when your driver arrives he wants to talk to you
I said, "Hello," it doesn't mean I want your life story
You never once ask me how I feel
But you can't look me in the eye when you’re talking at me
And that says more than your dumb words
